Floats of Lakewood High’s Class of ’75

Class of 75 Wins the Float Contest.

Homecoming Days

Oh, the spirited days of high school! Every fall, as the leaves began to turn, the class of 1975 at Lakewood High School would gather to create something truly magical for the homecoming football game. Year after year, we would converge at a classmate’s house, transforming it into a bustling workshop filled with the spirit of competition.

During our sophomore year, we started at Cheryl Kerns’ house, where we learned about the ropes of float building. By junior year, we were more ambitious. That year, we made the float at Carol Crowders’ stable. Unfortunately, the float went up in flames. However, it did fuel our determination, showcasing our resilience and spirit.

Class of ’75 Senior Year Enthusiasm

Our 75 Senior Homecoming week was a testament to our success and camaraderie. We gathered at Gail Neujahr’s house, where we crafted our best float ever. From power puff football games to the vibrant Orange and Black Day, each event brought us closer. The ’75 senior class took away most awards, including the Orange and Black Day and the hall decorating contests.

Inspired by the spirit of competition, the float featured our mighty Tiger mascot led on a covered wagon by our arch-rival. This playful nod to our school spirit ended up clinching the best float award. We triumphed in the float competition, leading the classes of ’77 and ’76 and the faculty.

We all celebrated with faculty and students alike at the spirited assembly. “This is the best Homecoming week we have ever had here at Lakewood, with the most spirit,” stated Mr. Marion Summerville at the Homecoming assembly.

As we look back at those unforgettable days, we remember the bonds with friends and the youthful exuberance that filled our hearts. The floats we built were more than just parade entries; they were a testament to our collective spirit and creativity.

Let’s Reconnect!

As we eagerly anticipate our upcoming reunion, let’s reignite that old-school spirit! Join us to relive the memories, reconnect with old friends, and share a laugh or two about those hidden beer cans (see below). Come and celebrate the enduring spirit of the class of ’75. It’s time to gather again for another homecoming and create new memories that will last a lifetime!

ps…

Making the float was a party, too. The remnants of the party, including hidden beer cans in the rafters, were discovered months later. Of course, drinking 3.2 beer was legal for 18-year-olds in Colorado in 1975. What a great year to graduate from High School. 😊😊😊
